UK's startup Phoebe secures $17M to develop the first "immune system" for software

London-based firm Phoebe, which builds an AI-powered platform that continuously detects, diagnoses, and prevents software failures, has secured $17 million in a seed round and announced the public launch of its platform, as Vestbee was told.

  • Phoebe was founded in 2024 by Matt Henderson and James Summerfield, formerly CEO and CIO of Stripe Europe, who had previously sold their first startup, Rangespan, to Google in 2014. The company has developed an AI-powered platform that continuously detects, diagnoses, and prevents software failures in real time.
  • The platform uses “swarms” of AI agents to monitor live system data. When an issue arises, the agents assess multiple potential causes by analyzing logs, traces, code commits, and infrastructure metrics.
  • They can automatically generate code or configuration changes to resolve incidents and, in some cases, predict problems before they lead to downtime.
  • Phoebe works with existing observability tools in a read-only, vendor-agnostic way, allowing teams to retain control over their systems. Its AI models interpret complex, siloed data, reducing manual investigation time and speeding up incident resolution.
  • The platform is already in production with early-access customers such as Trainline and PPRO.

Details of the deal

  • The seed round was co-led by GV (Google Ventures), a San Francisco-based VC managing over $10 billion in assets, and Cherry Ventures, a Berlin-based VC supporting European tech founders, which recently closed $500 million for its fifth fund.

“AI has transformed how code is written, but software reliability has not kept pace. Phoebe is building a missing layer of contextual intelligence that can help both human and AI engineers avoid software failures. We love the boldness of the team’s vision for a software immune system that preemptively fixes problems," claims Roni Hiranand, Investor at GV.

  • The fresh capital will be used to advance Phoebe’s AI agent platform, expand its engineering team in London and internationally, and grow go-to-market functions to support wider customer adoption.
  • The company will also invest in infrastructure to ensure the platform can support enterprise-scale deployments across fintech, SaaS, and digital commerce.
