Roma-based cybersecurity company Exein, which provides embedded, real-time cybersecurity solutions for connected and IoT devices, has raised €70 million in a Series C funding round led by Balderton.
- Launched in 2018 by Gianni Cuozzo, Exein develops embedded cybersecurity software for connected and IoT devices. The company builds a runtime security platform that operates directly on the device, enabling real-time monitoring, threat detection, and response without relying on external network-based protections.
- Its technology integrates with hardware and firmware, using edge AI to detect anomalies and enforce security policies locally.
- Exein’s solutions are used in sectors such as industrial automation, transportation, defense, and data infrastructure, and help manufacturers comply with global cybersecurity regulations.
Details of the deal
- The fresh capital was led by Balderton Capital, which recently raised two new funds, a $615 million Early Stage Fund IX and a $685 million Growth Fund II, bringing a total of $1.3 billion to invest in European tech startups from seed to IPO.
“We’re living in an era where everything, from rail networks to industrial machinery, is connected, and therefore exposed. Exein tackles this threat where it begins: on the device itself, embedding real-time security on the edge, continuously monitoring, learning, and responding. There is no better team to take on this challenge," claims Elena Moneta, Principal at Balderton.
- The investment also saw support from Supernova, Lakestar, 33N, United Ventures, and Partech.
- Exein will use the €70 million to expand into the US and Asia, develop security solutions for AI systems and LLMs, support regulatory compliance, and pursue targeted acquisitions to grow its capabilities.
"I’m extremely proud to be fortifying the foundations of European tech innovation, and to have the trust of our partners and investors as we expand globally and continue our mission of building the digital immune system for the connected world," explains Gianni Cuozzo, Founder and CEO of Exein.
