Eresing-based Reverion, a climate tech company developing reversible solid oxide fuel cell power plants, has raised $175 million in a Series B funding round led by Kembara, with participation from new investors Allianz, KfW Capital, Aurum Impact and Carbon Equity, alongside existing backers Extantia, Energy Impact Partners, UVC Partners, European Innovation Council Fund (EIC Fund), alfa8 and Possible Ventures.
- Founded in 2022 by Stephan Herrmann, Felix Fischer, Jeremias Weinrich, Maximilian Hauck and Luis Poblotzki, Reverion develops power plants that generate electricity from biogas, natural gas and hydrogen, while also converting surplus electricity into storable gases through reverse operation.
- The company's technology is designed to provide flexible, decentralised energy generation, with the potential to capture biogenic CO₂ and enable carbon-negative operations when using biogas.
- Reverion currently employs more than 200 people and has seven commercial power plants operating at customer sites. The company also reports a project pipeline exceeding $2 billion in potential revenue.
Details of the deal
- With the fresh capital, Reverion plans to scale its technology and establish a new production facility in Germany, which will have an annual manufacturing capacity of 250 megawatts. The expansion is expected to increase its production capacity tenfold and create up to 800 additional jobs.
- The company also aims to address growing demand for reliable, on-site power generation, particularly from energy-intensive data centres facing grid connection delays.
