Melt&Marble raises €7M to scale sustainable designer fats for beauty and food markets

Swedish biotech startup Melt&Marble, which develops designer fats for food and personal care, has raised €7 million in a Series A round led by Industrifonden, with support from EIC Fund, Beiersdorf, Valio, Chalmers Ventures, and Catalyze Capital, as Vestbee was told.

  • Launched in 2020 by Anastasia Krivoruchko and Thomas Cresswell, Melt&Marble develops designer fats and lipids for food and personal care applications.
  • The company uses precision fermentation and advanced lipid design to produce fats at the molecular level, allowing precise control over fatty acid composition and molecular structure.
  • This enables the creation of ingredients with tailored functionality, including specific melting properties, texture, and bioactivity, while eliminating reliance on animal-derived components, trans fats, and cholesterol.
  • Melt&Marble’s process leverages established industrial fermentation infrastructure, providing a scalable and cost-competitive method for producing sustainable fats and lipids with predictable performance characteristics across multiple product categories.

“We’re entering a new era where fats and lipids are no longer seen as commodities alone, but also as precision ingredients that can drive performance, improve health, and support sustainability," explains Thomas Cresswell, CBO of Melt&Marble.

Details of the deal

  • Melt&Marble plans to use the fresh funding to scale production of its designer fats and launch its first ingredients in the personal care and food markets. This includes moving from demo to market-ready products, producing at commercial volumes through an existing manufacturing partner, and preparing for expansion into Europe, the US, and other regions. They are also focusing on co-development with partners and commercial collaborations.

“Melt&Marble’s precision-fermentation approach to designer fats offers sustainable, high-performance alternatives for food and personal care. This Series A round is a strong endorsement of their technology. The EIC Fund is proud to support their scale-up and market entry," claims Svetoslava Georgieva, Chair of the EIC Fund Board.
