VC & Startup Weekly News From CEE, October 15 - 21, 2022

New VC Funds

  • Andera Partners raises its 6th, €456M life sciences fund. The firm will focus on innovative therapeutics and medical technology startups across Europe and North America.
  • US-based Next Play Capital raises a third, $200M-large fund. The firm will back VC and VC-backed companies across sectors and geographies.
  • An infrastructure and cybersecurity VC 33N Ventures debuts its first €150M fund. The firm will back series A-B startups across Europe, Israel and the US.
  • A new crypto fund BlockTower VC unveils a $150M fund. The firm will invest all across the web3 and crypto space while putting $500k to $6M checks into each of their startups.
  • The HubSpot's CEO Brian Halligan raises a $100M, ocean-focused climate fund Propeller.
  • A former Innogy Ventures team debuts a €50M VC Vireo Ventures. The firm will back European startups at the intersection of electrification and climate.
  • A new climate-tech VC Satgana debuts a first, €30M  fund. The firm will back European and African startups entering pre-seed or seed stages across food/agri tech, energy, mobility, industry and buildings, carbon removal, and the circular economy. The fund will offer tickets of up to €500k in size.

CEE Startup Funding Rounds, Acquisitions and Grants

  • Low-code blockchain development platform SettleMint gets €16M in funding for business expansion and product development. The round was led by Molten Ventures and joined by OTB Ventures.
  • A prolonged acquisition spree: Wirtualna Polska acquires 44.5% of a home appliance ecommerce Selsey to expand the portal's logistic and operational capabilities. The size of transaction is reported to be around  33M PLN.
  • Education marketplace EduCat raises a pre-seed funding round. The investment was made by AIP Seed.
  • Belaruso-Ukrainian VC Geek Ventures takes part in seed funding of the sports analytics platform SportsVisio. The size of the round is said to be around $3.1M.
  • A Bulgarian sales development agency Out2Bound is bought by a global outsourcing company MarketStar. The size of the transaction remains undisclosed.
  • Czech voice-to-text note-taking app Upheal obtains  €1.68M to speed up product development. The round is led by Kaya VC and followed by Calm/Storm VC and Credo Ventures.
  • An Estonian electricity spending optimization startup Gridio raises €1M. The round was co-funded by Link Capital, The Sharing Group, and Specialist VC.
  • Digital health startup Salu gets €350k to fund business development and product development. The investment was made by Krokodill Kapital.
  • Ukrainian Atlassian plugin developer Wombats Corp raises $250k convertible loan. The round was raised from the Atlassian Ventures.
  • Dermathologica supplements brand Carein raises a pre-seed round to enter the market. The investment was led by CofounderZone and joined by a number of business angels.

Startup Calls

  • Polish Center of research and Development (NCBR), together with EY announce an innovation challenge by the name of "Szybka Ścieżka" with 645M PLN worth of prizes. The program is open to R&D projects across cybersecurity, industry digitization, and gaming. The applications run till the 4th of November 16:00.
  • One of the most notable VCs from SEE - Eleven Ventures launches an acceleration program: Eleven Alpha. The program will help early-stage founders get up to speed with the startup basics and provide €300k in funding for 10% equity.
  • Vilnius tech park and Tech Zity will host a Green life hack: mobility hackathon. The winner of the challenge will obtain up to €20k in funding. The event will occur on the 28th of October.
  • Polish Ministry of Development and Technology, together with the National entrepreneurship development agency announces a Robogrant program. The program will help the local furniture industry by providing grants for automatization/robotization of the production capabilities. The applications run from November 8 to December 6.
