Estonian cleantech firm Jälle Technologies raises €2M in pre-seed round

Tallinn-based cleantech company Jälle Technologies, which recycles lithium-ion batteries and upcycles graphite into valuable materials, has raised €2 million in a pre-seed funding round to scale its recycling technology.

  • Founded in 2023 by Kerli Liivand, Martin Jantson, Reio Praats, Erki Ani, and Ivar Kruusenberg, Jälle Technologies develops recycling technologies that extract valuable metals from used lithium-ion batteries and convert waste graphite into graphene-like materials.
  • The company aims to improve recycling efficiency and reduce reliance on raw material imports by turning battery waste into reusable resources, supporting Europe’s efforts toward a circular and sustainable battery supply chain.

Details of the deal

  • The pre-seed round includes support from Enterprise Estonia (EIS) and the Environmental Investment Centre (KIK) contributed public grant funding.
  • The investemnt also saw support from Kiilto Ventures, the investment arm of Finnish chemical company Kiilto, and 2C Ventures, a venture fund investing in early-stage, impact-driven startups. Angel investors Andrus Purde and Priit Viru also joined the round.

“Battery recycling is no longer optional. Jälle’s team combines deep technical expertise with a clear commercialisation strategy, making them exactly the type of founder-led, high-impact company that we strive to support from our fund," claims Hendrik Reimand, Founding Partner at 2C Ventures.

  • Jälle Technologies will use the €2 million funding to scale its pilot production, validate its recycling technology at an industrial level, and expand its team in Estonia, advancing its mission to turn battery waste into valuable materials.
