Gazelle Wind Power, which designs advanced floating platforms for offshore wind energy, has raised €2 million in funding.
- Founded in 2020 by Jon Salazar, Gazelle Wind Power is an engineering startup developing floating platforms for offshore wind energy in deep-water locations where fixed-bottom turbines are not feasible.
- Its patented platform integrates elements of tension-leg and semi-submersible systems, using a dynamic mooring setup to stabilize against wind, waves, and currents without relying on active ballast. The result is a lighter structure that reduces mechanical strain on the turbine.
- The company is headquartered in Dublin and has offices in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, Vigo, Spain, and London.
- In 2024, Gazelle Wind Power raised €11.4 million to advance its 2MW Nau Azul demonstrator in Portugal, led by Indico Capital Partners.
Details of the deal
- The fresh capital raised came from Banco Português de Fomento (BPF) through the Deal-by-Deal Co-Investment Programme, in partnership with Indico Capital Partners.
- With the fresh capital, Gazelle Wind Power will strengthen its operational structure and expand its technical team to support growth.
- The funding will also advance the construction of the 2MW Nau Azul demonstrator in Viana do Castelo, aiming to validate the floating wind platform’s technology, prove its scalability, and reduce the levelized cost of electricity for larger offshore wind projects.
