Polish spacetech firm Orbital Matter raises €1M from Early Game Ventures

Warsaw-based space tech company Orbital Matter, which develops patented 3D printing technology to build objects directly in space, has raised €1 million in a seed funding round led by Early Game Ventures, as Vestbee was told.

  • Founded in 2022 by Jakub Stojek and Robert Ihnatisin, Orbital Matter is pioneering 3D printing technology that manufactures large structures directly in space.
  • Their patented process uses liquid materials combined with extrusion printing to drastically cut launch weight by up to 70% and reduce launch volume by ten times.
  • By printing complex components in orbit, the company aims to build essential space infrastructure, such as habitats on the Moon or walls for space stations, while taking advantage of microgravity to use far less material than traditional Earth-based methods.

Details of the deal

  • The seed round saw support from Early Game Ventures, a Bucharest-based venture capital firm that launched its €60 million Fund II to invest in 25 to 30 early-stage startups across the CEE region. Several business angels also participated in the round.

“With a strong team, a groundbreaking product, and a massive market opportunity in the burgeoning space economy, we are excited to support Orbital Matter as they build the future of space development. We look forward to seeing Orbital Matter revolutionize the way humanity establishes a presence in space, and we are proud to be a part of their journey,” Partner Early Game, Florin Visa, commented in a press release.

  • The firm will use the fresh funding to advance its 3D printing technology from NASA Technical Readiness Level 5 to Level 8, preparing for its next space launch and moving closer to commercial readiness by delivering its first client order.
