Barcelona-based venture capital platform Masia has closed its debut fund at €18 million to back early-stage AI and frontier tech startups with ties to the city. The firm has also opened Masia House, a 1,000-square-metre hub in Barcelona’s Gràcia neighbourhood for founders, investors and technology operators, as Vestbee was informed.
- Founded in 2025 by Carlos Trenchs and Pepe Borrell, Masia invests at the pre-seed and seed stages, co-investing with venture capital firms such as Common Magic, Nina Capital, Point Nine and Lunar Ventures. Its portfolio companies have also attracted funding from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), DST Global, Norrsken VC, Y Combinator and Initialized Capital.
- Its portfolio includes Biorce, which applies AI to clinical trials; Prosper, which uses AI to manage patient journeys; and Didit, an AI-native identity platform backed by Y Combinator.
- The firm raised capital from more than 70 limited partners (LPs), including technology founders, executives, experienced investors and two institutional investors. It has already backed 46 startups founded by 60 entrepreneurs.
- The fund will support startups addressing significant market opportunities through AI and frontier technologies, with a focus on founders aiming to build global businesses. Masia also plans to connect them with international investors, talent and industry expertise.
- Masia House features workspaces, meeting rooms, accommodation for visiting investors and a terrace for community gatherings. A further project on the ground floor is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
