London-based startup Marker, which develops an AI-assisted writing platform, has secured $13 million in seed funding to challenge traditional word processors and AI automation tools.
- Founded in 2026 by Jon Steinback and Ryan Bowman, Marker develops an AI-powered writing platform that helps users with idea development, drafting, editing, and collaboration.
- The tool is designed to support writers throughout the writing process by providing AI-assisted feedback and editing capabilities while keeping content creation in the hands of the user.
Details of the deal
- The round was led by Index Ventures with participation from LocalGlobe, alongside backing from betaworks, Radical Ventures, Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company, Otherwise Fund, and angel investors including Steve Newman, Cal Henderson, and Thomas Wolf.
"We couldn't be more excited to lead Marker's seed round, as they join our portfolio of companies reimagining new ways of working with AI - whether that be Granola for meetings, Figma for design or Notion for collaboration," explains Georgia Stevenson, Partner at Index Ventures.
- The fresh capital will enable the firm to expand its AI writing platform, accelerate product development, and support its mission to create tools that enhance the writing process.
