Munich-based Isar Aerospace has raised €270 million in a Series D round aimed at expanding production of its Spectrum launch vehicle, increasing launch capacity, and scaling operations beyond Europe.
- Founded in 2018 by Daniel Metzler, Markus Brandl, Josef Fleischmann, and Daniel Faber, Isar Aerospace develops orbital launch vehicles for small and medium-sized satellites. It handles design, manufacturing, and testing in-house, with production based near Munich.
- Its Spectrum rocket is a liquid-fuel, multi-stage system that delivers satellites into low Earth orbit. During flight, stages separate sequentially, with the upper stage inserting payloads into defined orbital positions.
- Customers include satellite operators, research institutions, and space agencies using the service for Earth observation, communications, and scientific missions. Launch operations currently run from Andøya Spaceport in Norway, with additional international sites planned.
Details of the deal
- The round includes new investors Island Green Capital and Molten Ventures, alongside existing backers HV Capital, Lakestar, UVC Partners, and KfW Capital, as well as other European participants.
- The capital will be used to scale production at the company’s Munich-area facility, which is designed to manufacture up to 40 rockets per year, and to expand its global launch infrastructure. A site in Canada is in development, with further locations under negotiation.
“Space is no longer a frontier; it is the infrastructure of national power. With this strategic backing, we are expanding access to space for nations worldwide, delivering an orbital launch system at scale for government and commercial customers," explains Daniel Metzler, co-founder and CEO of Isar Aerospace.
