Hypersonica lands €100M Series B to scale hypersonic defence technology

Munich- and London-based defence company Hypersonica, which develops hypersonic deep-strike systems for Europe and its allies, has raised €100 million in a Series B round co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst, with continued participation from existing investors Plural, 201 Ventures and Germany’s Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation (SPRIND).

  • Founded in 2023 by Dr Philipp Kerth and Dr Marc Ewenz, Hypersonica develops hypersonic systems designed to provide European countries and their allies with long-range precision strike capabilities.
  • In February 2026, the company successfully tested its HS-1 prototype, reaching speeds above Mach 6 over a distance exceeding 300 kilometres. According to Hypersonica, it was the first privately funded European defence company to achieve this milestone.
  • The company aims to develop hypersonic deep-strike systems by 2029 while building a European technology and manufacturing base. Its systems are developed and produced in Europe, with a focus on providing sovereign, ITAR-free capabilities for European allies.

Details of the deal

  • The fresh capital will enable the firm to accelerate the development and testing of its hypersonic systems, expand its operations across Europe and strengthen its engineering and manufacturing capabilities in the UK and Germany.
