German defence firm Helsing secures $1.8B in series E, reaching $18B valuation

Munich-based defence AI firm Helsing, which develops artificial intelligence-powered systems for military applications, has secured $1.8 billion in Series E funding, valuing the company at $18 billion.

  • Founded in 2021 by Gundbert Scherf, Torsten Reil, and Niklas Köhler, Helsing develops software platforms, autonomous systems, and AI-driven defence technologies for applications across air, land, sea, and electronic warfare domains.
  • The company’s technology combines artificial intelligence with existing military hardware, enabling defence systems to analyse large volumes of data, detect potential threats, and support faster decision-making in complex operational environments.
  • Helsing also builds autonomous platforms, including AI-enabled aircraft and underwater systems, while working with governments and defence partners to integrate its software into defence infrastructure.
  • The firm’s approach centres on software-defined defence, using AI as an intelligence and coordination layer that connects sensors, platforms, and military assets into integrated networks.
