Expanse raises $5.3M seed round to optimize AI compute infrastructure

San Francisco- and London-based AI infrastructure company Expanse has raised $5.3 million in a seed round led by Crane Venture Partners, with participation from PXN Ventures and angel investors, including former DeepMind researchers and AI infrastructure leaders, as Vestbee was informed.

  • Founded in 2025 by Ismaeel Bashir, Nikodem Bieniek, Eren Mendi, and Yafet Melake, Expanse develops software designed to predict the compute requirements of AI workloads before they run. Its platform recommends the optimal GPU, CPU, memory, and runtime configuration, helping organizations reduce over-allocation, prevent failed jobs, and improve the utilization of existing infrastructure.
  • Unlike traditional monitoring and observability tools that analyze workloads after execution, Expanse operates before a workload begins. The platform is installed directly within a customer's cloud or on-premises environment, keeping code and telemetry within the organization's infrastructure.
  • According to Expanse, its technology identified nearly $8 million in idle compute capacity during a single production deployment, highlighting the potential to improve the utilization of existing infrastructure.

Details of the deal

  • With the fresh capital, Expanse plans to expand its engineering team, accelerate product development, and bring its platform to more organizations across AI infrastructure, quantitative finance, life sciences, research, and high-performance computing.
