VC & Startup Weekly News From CEE, May 7-13, 2022

New VC Funds

  • Founders of Boosta launch a Burner VC fund to invest up to $1M in pre-seed - series A startups. The fund will consider proposals targeting Western European and American markets within iGaming, Crypto, Dating, Finance and Auto sectors having a B2C/B2C2C model.
  • Singaporean alternative protein investor Good Startup announces a $34M fund. The firm will consider investments across all countries and stages, putting an average of $500k into each company.
  • Polish chemicals group Ciech partners up with Emerald Technology Ventures in scouting innovation and launches its own venture fund. The group will look for companies innovating within chemicals, sustainable industry (cleantech & circular economy) and agriculture sectors across Europe.

CEE Startup Funding Rounds

  • Romanian early-age Edtech Adservio picks up €2M to capture the Romanian market and expand internationally. The round was led by Catalyst Romania.
  • Support tech startup Fullview raises $7.5M in funding to further develop its product and hire new team members. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Cherry Ventures, Seedcamp as well as a number of business angels.
  • Croatian carmaker Rimac Automobili receives a €120M investment to scale up the production of its product’s key components. The investment was made by Investindustrial.
  • Polish agtech for livestock SeedsBot nabs 2M PLN. The investment was made by RND Investments and Marek Zmysłowski.
  • RFID tags producer Talkin’ Things raises $20M to scale up its production capacity and further develop the product. The company investors’ included TDJ Venture, Prosegur and Formika’s founder Piotr Dębicki.
  • Payment collection startup Instapay picks up 1.5M PLN to build up new features and expand its customer base. The round was led by Assay Group and Space Bridge Fund.

     
  • Polish indie game developer Pixel Perfect Dude gets 0.9M PLN in funding to continue developing the #Drive, #SkiJump and a new game with undisclosed title. The funding was made through Unfold.vc and a number of business angels.
  • Payment solutions fintech Fenige raises 6.5M PLN for further expansion. The round was led by WP2 Investments and private shareholders of the company.
  • An all-in-one business-travel solution Hotailors raises €23M to continue its growth across MENA and the US. The funding was procured through the existing investor DialCom24.
  • Customer service automation platform Tidio gets a $25M series B to double down on marketing and new team hires. The round was led by PeakSpan Capital with participation of Inovo Venture Partners as well as Rafał Brzoska.
  • Czech edtech startup Upgrade Education helping with all aspects of Ivy-league/Oxbridge applications gets €450k investment. The funding was made through DepoVentures, SuperCharger Ventures, and a number of angels/crowdinvestors.
  • Campervan renting platform from Czechia Campiri raises a €2M in funding to power up the sustainable travel across CEE. The round was raised through  Rockaway Ventures  and joined by Miton and Purple Ventures.

Startup Calls

  • Croatian BIRD Incubator launches a Startup 101 Evening School for aspiring entrepreneurs. The applications are open till 24th of May but there are only 30 spots available so if you’re interested - you better hurry up!
  • Ukrianian 1991 Accelerator launches a program for local startups’ “Reload”. Upon joining, participants can expect a three-month-long training on many aspects of startup building through a series of expert-led workshops. The applications are open till the 28th of May.
  • Climate Innovation Vouchers are giving away up to €50k in equity free-funding to support Ukraine’s clean/green tech startups. To be eligible, the company should’ve been registered within Ukraine at least a year before the application. The applications are open till the 31st of May.
  • A tech community event ViennaUP’22 is inviting tech enthusiasts, startup founders and investors to join the conference on 27th of May. While there, you may hear interesting tech speakers, participate in an idea brainstorming bootcamp, blockchain hackathon, pitch in front of investors and more.
  • Polish local governments start searching for innovative solutions: GovTech platform invites entrepreneurs for initial consultations about potential solutions in the areas of document management, waste management as well as connectivity/transport. There’s no specific deadline but its best to come over for consultations as soon as possible.
