Oxford-based foodtech firm Modern Baker, which develops clean-label ingredient technologies to make ultra-processed staple foods healthier and more nutritious, has raised £2.5 million in a Series A funding round.
- Founded in 2017 by Melissa Sharp and Leo Campbell, Modern Baker develops breakthrough clean-label ingredient technologies that improve the nutritional profile of carbohydrate-based ultra-processed foods.
- The company’s approach involves deconstructing the beneficial properties of vegetables and reconstructing them into scalable staple foods, like bread, that support metabolic and gut health.
- Their flagship product, SUPERLOAF, slows glucose absorption, reduces calorie load, and optimizes gut microbiome activity, making it healthier without compromising taste or convenience.
Details of the deal
- The investment was backed by Adjuvo, a London-based venture capital firm and experienced membership network of over 200 angel investors who support innovative early-stage British companies across diverse industries.
"We are proud to back Leo Campbell and the Modern Baker team as they build a radically different kind of food-tech business and prove that UPFs can be part of the solution, not just the problem," Adjuvo's team, commented on LinkedIn.
- The firm plans to utilize the £2.5 million funding to boost SUPERLOAF’s production and reach, improve its technology platform, grow licensing collaborations, and strengthen operations to drive continued growth and innovation.
