Barcelona-based Masia has closed a €20 million angel fund, born out of Aldea Ventures' fund of funds.
- Founded in 2024 by Carlos Trenchs Sainz de la Maza and Pepe Borrell, Masia is an angel fund that backs founders at the pre-seed and seed stages. It invests between €125,000 and €250,000 in Barcelona-born and based startups, focusing on GenAI, healthtech, global tech, statech, biotech, fintech, blockchain, defence, climate, and hardware.
- The firm has backed nine startups alongside 20+ international micro VCs, and emerging fund managers, including Fermat, BIORCE, Zymvol Biomodeling, Capably, IMA Health, Oliva, CareerOS, Spock, and Galtea.
- Moreover, Masia has also co-invested with a new generation of specialized micro VCs and emerging fund managers such as Moonfire, OUTSIZED VENTURES, Übermorgen Ventures, Sarah Drinkwater, Lunar Ventures, MSM Fund (Mustard Seed Maze), YZR Capital, Nina Capital, and Concept Ventures
"Masia is dedicated to progressing Barcelona as a growing hub of tech talent, both by connecting local founders with major investors across the European tech scene, as well as connecting Barcelona-based international founders to the local ecosystem," Masia's team, commented in a statement.
- Among its backers are Didac Lee, co-founder of Galdana and TradeInn; Albert Nieto, co-founder of Seedtag; Elisenda Bou, co-founder of Vilynx, which was acquired by Apple; Philippe Gelis, co-founder of Kantox, acquired by BNP Paribas; and Albert Castells, co-founder of iSalud, acquired by CNP Insurance.
- With its fresh €20 million fund, Masia plans to deploy capital across 60 pre-seed and seed-stage investments to support Barcelona’s tech talent and connect founders with European investors.
