Zurich-based firm Soverli raises $2.6M to build sovereign smartphone architecture

Zurich-based cybersecurity company Soverli, which enables smartphones to run isolated, parallel operating systems, has raised $2.6 million in pre-seed funding, led by Founderful with participation from the ETH Zurich Foundation, Venture Kick, and cybersecurity industry figures.

  • Founded as an ETH Zurich spin-off by Ivan Puddu and Moritz Schneider, Soverli develops a parallel multi-operating system architecture for smartphones that allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously on a single device while remaining isolated from one another.
  • The company’s technology enables a sovereign operating system to operate alongside Android or iOS on standard commercial smartphones without requiring hardware modifications.
  • This OS-level separation allows sensitive applications and data to run in an isolated environment that can remain operational even if the primary operating system is compromised or disrupted, while users can switch between environments as needed.

Details of the deal

  • The new funding will be used to grow Soverli’s engineering capabilities, broaden device compatibility, deepen enterprise and government system integrations, and accelerate collaborations with smartphone manufacturers, as the company works toward wider real-world deployment of its sovereign smartphone architecture.
