German aquaculture technology company Oceanloop has secured up to €38.5 million in financing, combining new equity commitments from Hatch Blue’s Blue Revolution Fund and Stolt Ventures with a €32 million venture-debt facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB), backed by the European Union’s InvestEU program.
- Founded in 2023 by Dr. Fabian Riedel, Oceanloop develops modular, software-driven recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) for land-based marine farming. The company was formed through the combination of Crusta Nova and the marine engineering and water-treatment businesses Sander, Förde Garnele, and neomar.
- Its platform integrates RAS engineering, marine biology, water treatment, software, digital monitoring, laboratory services, and farm operations to support commercial marine aquaculture.
- Oceanloop became the first company to commercially farm Giant Grouper in Europe, with sales from its Strande farm near Kiel starting in April 2026 through its sister company and seafood brand, Honest Catch.
Details of the deal
- The fresh financing will support Oceanloop’s European scale-up, including the construction of its 250-ton Giant Grouper farm in Kiel and the planned 2,000-ton facility in Gran Canaria.
- The company will also use the capital to further develop its RAS technology, biological capabilities, digital monitoring, and commercial operating model, with the goal of creating a repeatable platform for land-based marine aquaculture.
“This financing marks the beginning of Oceanloop’s industrial scale-up. With Hatch Blue, Stolt Ventures and the European Investment Bank, we are bringing together specialist aquaculture investment expertise, decades of commercial seafood experience and long-term European growth financing,” said Dr. Fabian Riedel, Founder and CEO of Oceanloop.
