Belgian-American startup Model Health, which converts smartphone videos into lab-grade movement analysis for sports and rehabilitation professionals, has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding to accelerate product development and expand its team, as Vestbee was told.
- Launched in late 2024 by Antoine Falisse, Scott Uhlrich, and Nicolas Bellemans, Model Health develops software that converts standard smartphone videos into lab-grade movement analysis.
- The system captures motion through an iOS app, synchronizes and calibrates the recordings, and processes them using AI-driven biomechanics algorithms.
- Users can then access detailed metrics and interactive visualizations via a web application, with automated analysis modules generating actionable insights for assessing physical performance, tracking rehabilitation progress, and benchmarking athletes.
- The technology operates without specialized cameras or markers, providing objective, scientifically validated data for physical therapists, athletic trainers, and sports organizations.
Details of the deal
- The pre-seed round was led by APEX Capital, a sports-focused investment firm backed by world-class athletes, investing across venture capital, growth, and private equity to transform the sports industry.
“Traditionally, athletes need to move from the field/track/pitch to a lab for detailed movement analysis, Model Health reverses this. They make the lab go to the athletes. Their technology has the potential to become the global standard for how professionals measure, analyze, and improve movement. We are very excited for the journey ahead," claims Koen Bosma, Partner at Apex Capital.
- The fresh capital also saw support from Syndicate One, LeanSquare, imec.istart, and strategic angel investors, including Lieven Maesschalck, David Bombeke, Leen Van Damme, Jeroen De Wit, Kristof de Smet, Marius Declerck, and an undisclosed international European footballer.
- Model Health will use the $1 million pre-seed funding to advance its AI-driven movement analysis technology, expand the team with three key hires, and drive adoption among sports clinics, rehabilitation centers, and organizations worldwide, enabling broader access to lab-grade movement insights.
