German fintech startup mika raises €6M to automate accounting and tax for SMEs

Berlin-based vertical AI startup mika, which develops an AI-native financial operating system for small and medium-sized businesses, has raised €6 million in a seed round led by Smedvig Ventures.

  • Founded in 2024 by Agnieszka Walorska, Lukas Linnekuhle, and Henry Müssemann, mika provides an AI-native platform that automates bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts, and tax filings.
  • Its general ledger is designed specifically for German accounting and combines AI models with accounting rules and domain knowledge.
  • The platform processes receipts and payments, categorises transactions, records them, and explains individual entries to users. Trained accountants review the results and step in when cases require human involvement. Users can also query their financial data through mika or via the Model Context Protocol using AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude.
  • The company initially focused on digital-first businesses such as agencies and consultancies but has since expanded to customers across SaaS, property, e-commerce, retail, and skilled trades.
  • At the beginning of 2026, around 400 GmbHs and UGs were using mika. That number has since grown to more than 750, while the company said it surpassed €1 million in annual recurring revenue during the summer.

  • The round also saw participation from Basel-based family office Wecken & Cie. (Care4 AG), as well as angel investors Dennis Bemmann, Michael Brehm, Johannes Ditterich, and Martina Pfeifer. Existing investors Keen Venture Partners and Dutch Founders Fund also increased their stakes.
  • With the fresh capital, mika plans to accelerate growth and further develop its platform, aiming to make accounting, tax, and financial management more accessible and affordable for small businesses.
