Ukrainian defense tech startup HIMERA, which develops EW-protected tactical communication systems, has raised over $2.5 million, led by Green Flag Ventures, with support from Nezlamni Fund, United Angels Network, Freedom Fund VC, VYTACH, Big Defence, UA1 VC, Varangians, and Bulava Capital.
- Founded in 2022 by Mykhailo Rudominskyi amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, HIMERA develops secure communication radio stations for military and emergency use. The startup’s devices are designed to operate under combat conditions, featuring a battery life of up to four days, resistance to electronic warfare, low detectability, and 256-bit encrypted traffic.
- HIMERA’s system includes a MESH network capability, allowing data delivery across multiple radio stations even without a direct connection, all using frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology. Devices are developed in Kyiv and Tallinn and undergo rigorous testing at each stage of production to ensure reliability and rapid deployment.
- The handsets can be easily configured via Bluetooth through a smartphone, enabling quick adoption without specialized training, and functionalities are continuously updated in response to military requirements.
- In 2023, HIMERA received a $10,000 grant after winning an award at IT-Arena. In 2024, the firm secured $525,000 in funding from angel investors.
Details of the deal
- HIMERA will use the fresh funding to strengthen its operations in the Ukrainian market, enhancing national security and stability while developing more products and improving coverage and communication reliability for those who need it most.
- Additionally, the funds will support the company’s international expansion, helping scale existing cases and enter new markets where resilient communication is essential. This investment will allow HIMERA to grow, innovate, and deliver more reliable solutions both at home and abroad.
