eyeo secures €40M Series A to transform camera sensors with color-splitting technology

Dutch nanophotonic imaging company eyeo has raised €40 million in a Series A funding round led by Innovation Industries, bringing its total funding to €55 million.

  • Founded in 2024 by Jan Genoe, Alden Carracillo, Jeroen Hoet, and Gerd Van den Branden, the company develops nanophotonic image sensor technology designed to replace traditional color filters with light-splitting structures. The approach is intended to improve light sensitivity, image resolution, and color accuracy in imaging systems used across consumer and industrial applications.
  • eyeo is headquartered at High Tech Campus Eindhoven in the Netherlands, with additional sensor design operations in Antwerp, Belgium. The company focuses on CMOS-compatible sensors built on its proprietary NCOS® (Nanophotonic Color Splitting) platform.
  • This technology uses nanoscale optical structures to separate incoming light into its component wavelengths and direct each color to the appropriate pixel, reducing the light loss typically caused by conventional color filters.
  • Unlike traditional image sensors that rely on absorptive filtering, eyeo’s approach redirects light more efficiently through the sensor. This enables smaller pixel sizes while maintaining or improving image quality, resulting in higher sensitivity, better color reproduction, and increased resolution in compact sensor designs.

Details of the deal

  • The Series A round was led by Innovation Industries, with participation from imec.xpand, Invest-NL, QBIC fund, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM).
  • The funding will be used to support eyeo’s transition from research and development into large-scale commercial production. The company plans to expand its engineering teams, advance next-generation sensor development, and strengthen partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring its technology to markets including mobile devices, industrial systems, XR, and smart city applications.
