Estonian firm BaBayte secures investment to build AI-powered drone survivability systems

Tallinn-based defencetech firm BaBayte, which develops the BabAI autonomous threat-evasion system for drones and satellites, has secured funding from Green Flag Ventures, an investor in early-stage, innovative Ukrainian tech startups.

  • Established in 2022 by Roman Karpenko, BaBayte develops autonomous threat-evasion systems for drones and satellites. Its main product, BabAI, integrates with UAVs and defense platforms to detect incoming threats via electro-optical, infrared, LiDAR, and radar sensors, predict intercept trajectories, and execute evasive maneuvers in real time without human input.
  • Tested in operational environments in Ukraine, the system has completed over 450 combat hours across 17 client deployments with an 87% evasion success rate, demonstrating functionality in diverse conditions.

"BaBayte OÜ was built in the field together with the people who actually fly and rely on these systems. Our goal has always been simple: protect the drones, protect the operators, and help defend the sky of the free world," BaBayte's team, commented on LinekdIn.

Details of the deal

  • The fresh funding will enable the firm to advance its BabAI AI module, allowing drones to identify threats, calculate intercept trajectories, and perform evasive maneuvers autonomously. It will also support team growth, ensuring the company can continue developing a field-tested solution that enhances drone survivability in increasingly hostile environments.
