Berlin-based legaltech startup Flank, which is building an autonomous AI legal agent for enterprise teams, has secured $10 million in a seed round led by Insight Partners to support the development of its product.
- Established in 2018 by Lilian Breidenbach, Charlotte Kufus, and Jacob Jones, Flank develops autonomous AI agents to automate routine legal and compliance workflows for enterprise teams.
- The platform allows legal, privacy, compliance, and finance departments to train and deploy specialized AI agents that handle tasks such as answering legal questions, reviewing and negotiating contracts, drafting documents, and completing compliance questionnaires, entirely autonomously.
- The platform is integrated into tools like Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Slack, and Gmail. Flank agents work within enterprise guardrails, offering secure, end-to-end execution with audit trails and full visibility.
- Flank reports that it has achieved triple-digit revenue growth over the past year. The company supports enterprise teams across the US, Europe, and MENA, with clients including DeepL, SumUp, TravelPerk, QA, PROS, Lusha, and others.
Details of the deal
- The seed round was led by New York-based venture capital firm Insight Partners, which manages over $90 billion in regulatory assets. Insight has invested in more than 800 companies globally, with over 55 of its portfolio companies achieving an IPO.
“Flank is helping define a new category of enterprise software — autonomous agents that are embedded, invisible, and capable of real work at scale. We’re excited to back Lili, Jake, Charlotte, and the entire Flank team as they reimagine how enterprise teams operate, starting with legal," explains Sophie Beshar, Vice President at Insight Partners.
- The recent funding round also included continued participation from Gradient Ventures, the AI-focused seed fund, as well as 10x Founders and HV Capital.
- With the fresh $10 million capital, Flank plans to continue developing its autonomous AI legal agent product, expand both its engineering and commercial teams, and strengthen its enterprise partnerships to accelerate growth and scale its operations globally.
“Legal teams are overloaded with repetitive, high-volume tasks that drain time and resources. Flank lets them focus on high-value work while our agent handles the rest, invisibly, autonomously, and embedded within the business. We’re excited to announce our funding with Insight Partners and look forward to partnering with them as we scale and grow," explains Lili Breidenbach, CEO of Flank.
